Catching the Wave

“Veil after veil of thin dusky gauze is lifted and by degrees the forms and colors of things are restored to them and we watch the the dawn remaking the world in it’s ancient pattern .”  ~Oscar Wilde

I go to the beach each summer,  to rest and recover from the stresses of the past year. Because my fair skin cannot tolerate the full sun of the day, the dawn and dusk have become my beach buddies. What generous friends they are! The soft revelation and awe of seeing a new day born, refills my depleted coffers of hope and energy with the promise of possibilities for the day. Being present to the dawn raises the level of optimism in my heart and cleanses frenetic thoughts from my overwrought mind.  I feel the steady pounding of the incoming waves reseting my heartbeat to a tempo that feels as if it matches the heartbeat of nature itself.

One August morning I attempted the impossible- to capture this daily miracle in paint. Beginning in the near dark, I painted quickly to keep up with the unfolding array of color unfolding on sky and water. Brisk sea breezes embedded sand in the paint along with the feeling of the first light’s gift of peacefulness.

Later, in the dead of winter, when the world is draped in dreary grey, I get a lift from contemplating this image. I recall those glorious  moments of the summer dawning over sparkling pink ocean waves. I know this show is a repeat but never a rerun, each dawn, like each of our days always unique.

To be a witness to the dawn, on the edge of the depths and power of the ocean and  the breadth of the sky is to be in the Presence of the Creator. Go and stand one morning in this free gift that awaits you. Let the blessing of the rising sun, the vigor of the cleansing breezes awaken your spirit . Let it fill you with quiet peace and new energy…try it, you’ll like it!

Wishing you peace and renewal,
